This course is has been developed and contextualised for those people specifically working in the Resources, Infrastructure and Construction Industry. This course is also often undertaken by people working in other industries such as the Gas, Oil and Energy sectors.
The 4WD and Defensive Driving course is a practical driving course that is designed to familiarise drivers with the correct use of appropriate range (high or low range), gears and techniques to operate a 4WD vehicle through and over different and difficult terrain. It includes the mechanical understanding and the capabilities and limitations of a 4WD vehicle, without harm to personnel, damage to vehicle and equipment and minimum environmental damage.

Delivery will be conducted face to face either on the client's site or held at the Riklan Training Centre.
Classroom training with up to 10 learners at a time at a purpose build facility with recognised workplace equipment delivered in a holistic manner.
Clients Site Delivery: If conducted on the client’s site, contact will be made with the coordinator prior to course commencement. Resources including the practical area will be arranged, if the site is deficient in any areas Riklan trainers will source and supply specific equipment.
Workplace assessment: Work place assessment is only conducted if the site has adequate facilities to deliver and assess the training program.
Riklan Training Centre: This course conducted at Riklan is designed to cover theory in the training room commencing to a practice workplace simulated confined space.
Language, literacy and numeracy requirements from the unit are:
- Writing is required to the level of completing written assessments.
- Numeracy is required to enable the determination of similar activities.
Participants are required to hold a current unrestricted Class C driver’s licence, the ability to drive a manual vehicle and meet the national vision standards requirements for that states legislation, with or without corrective lenses.
