Description

This course is for those participants who are required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a specific area or work space to determine if it is safe for the proposed work.

Participants will attain the practical application and understanding required to effectively carry out atmospheric gas testing in all industries and will be able to:

- Determine the type of gas/atmosphere to be tested.
- Apply hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Use gas testing equipment and interpret and report the readings.
- Monitor the atmosphere on an ongoing basis.
- Clean and maintain testing equipment.

Purpose

The purpose of this training course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to perform safe, efficient and effective monitoring of hazardous atmospheres within the workplace in environments that may be hazardous and unpredictable.

Duration

The course will be conducted over 1 Day.

Entry Requirements

This unit requires the ability to read and interpret a gas testing appliance and then communicate the readings.

Photo ID must be presented on arrival at the training premises.

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements from the unit are:
Writing is required to the level of completing required workplace reports/forms.
Numeracy is required to read the gas testing instrument and interpret the results as being safe/not safe and so determine the required actions.

Assessment Requirements

The course will be based on theoretical sessions, equipment demonstrations and practical exercises.

Participants who are deemed competent will receive a Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued by RIKLAN Emergency Management Services under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Delivery Mode

Face to face and practical hands-on training conducted by an experienced Emergency Services Trainer/Assessor with strong knowledge of relevant Legislation, Australian Standards and Codes of Practice.

Materials or Equipment Required

Participants must wear long pants, long sleeve shirts and steel cap boots.

Notes

If you are a new or continuing student undertaking nationally recognised training, you need a USI in order to receive your qualification or statement of attainment for this unit.
