Description

This course is to provide participants with the competency requirements associated with the identification, avoidance, review, and evaluation of workplace risks and hazards, maintenance of personal safety and the reporting to supervisors and team members. This course will also provide participants with the competency requirements associated with the operation and maintenance of breathing apparatus equipment in an irrespirable atmosphere.

Purpose

This course involves the skills and knowledge required to select, don, operate and maintain breathing apparatus equipment in a hazardous atmosphere. It includes conducting pre-donning checks and tests of breathing apparatus; donning and checking of breathing apparatus; operating breathing apparatus and concluding breathing apparatus operations.

The course applies to personnel who work as a member of a team. Work at this level is undertaken under direct supervision and instruction.

Career Pathways

These units of competency form part of the elective units required to complete:
AHC40920 - Certificate IV in Conservation and Ecosystem Management
PUA20619 - Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations)
PUA20719 - Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting Operations)
RII30719 - Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue

Duration

The course will be conducted over 2 days.

Entry Requirements

Photo ID must be presented on arrival at the training premises.

Face must be clean shaven to ensure an adequate seal with the BA face mask.

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements from the unit are:
- Writing is required to the level of completing written assessments.
- Numeracy is required to enable the determination of similar activities.

Qualification Requirements

Pre-Requisite PUAFIR210 Prevent injury (will be attained during this course).

Assessment Requirements

The course will be based on theoretical sessions, equipment demonstrations and practical exercises.

While the training for the enrolled units is delivered concurrently, each Unit of competency is assessed as a discrete unit.

Participants who are deemed competent will receive a Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued by RIKLAN Emergency Management Services (RTO 51994) under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Delivery Mode

Face to face and practical hands-on training conducted by an experienced Emergency Services Trainer/Assessor with strong knowledge of relevant Legislation, Australian Standards and Codes of Practice.

Materials or Equipment Required

Students must wear long pants, long sleeve shirts and steel cap boots.

Notes

If you are a new or continuing student undertaking nationally recognised training, you need a USI in order to receive your qualification or statement of attainment for this unit.
