Description

This course covers the skills and knowledge required to conduct lifting operations by operating a gantry or overhead crane which is controlled by pendant or wireless remote. This training qualifies you to operate a gantry or overhead crane with three (3) or less powered motions, where hoist/raise and lower is one operation.

Short/Cross travel is one motion; Long/Length travel is a second motion; and Hoist raise or Hoist lower is a third motion.

IMPORTANT: This course does not cover the requirements for a gantry or overhead crane with four (4) or more powered motions. A High Risk Work Licence (class CB) is required for this type of crane.

Purpose

This course is appropriate for those people working in operational roles who generally work under supervision to undertake a range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.

On completion of the course, participants will be able to:

- Inspect and prepare the work area including Identifying and addressing potential risks/hazards.
- Plan the work and develop a preliminary lifting plan.
- Perform pre-operational checks.
- Operate the gantry or overhead crane to move a load.
- Shut down the crane and perform post-operational checks.
- Conduct operator maintenance.

Duration

The course will be conducted over 1 Day.

Entry Requirements

Photo ID must be presented on arrival at the training premises.

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements from the unit are:
- Writing is required to the level of completing written assessments.
- Numeracy is required to enable the determination of similar activities.

Assessment Requirements

The course will be based on theoretical sessions, equipment demonstrations and practical exercises.

Participants who are deemed competent will receive a Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued by RIKLAN Emergency Management Services (RTO 51994) under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Delivery Mode

Face to face and practical hands-on training conducted by an experienced Trainer/Assessor with strong knowledge of relevant Legislation, Australian Standards and Codes of Practice.

Materials or Equipment Required

Students must wear long pants, long sleeve shirts and steel cap boots.

Notes

If you are a new or continuing student undertaking nationally recognised training, you need a USI in order to receive your qualification or statement of attainment for this unit.
