The purpose of a VOC is to verify that an individual can demonstrate current competency and safe work practices when undertaking specific tasks or operating particular equipment. VOCs are commonly required by employers, mine sites, and contractors as part of workplace compliance, risk management, and site mobilisation requirements.
VOC durations vary depending on the equipment or task being assessed, the participant’s experience level, and any site-specific requirements. Most VOC assessments can be completed within two hours.
Participants must provide evidence of any relevant licences, statements of attainment, or previous training where applicable. A basic understanding of workplace safety requirements and sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy skills are also required.
A VOC is not a nationally recognised qualification but provides documented evidence that a participant has demonstrated competency in operating specific equipment or undertaking certain tasks in accordance with workplace or site requirements.
Assessments generally include:
Verification of existing licences and/or qualifications
Theory and knowledge questioning
Practical demonstration of skills
Observation of safe operating procedures and hazard awareness
Participants who successfully complete the assessment will receive evidence of their VOC on the day.
VOC assessments can be conducted:
Onsite at your workplace or mine site
At Riklan training facilities
Individually or in group bookings
Tailored to site-specific procedures and operational requirements
Riklan can utilise client-provided equipment onsite or provide access to equipment and training resources at our training facilities, depending on the VOC requirements. Participants may also be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
