Description

This course aims to ensure that people required to operate a 4WD vehicle during the course of their employment are able to safely operate the vehicle, apply environmental management techniques, participate in vehicle recovery techniques and ensure the safety of themselves, passengers, other road users and pedestrians.

Purpose

This course is designed for personnel who are required to operate a four wheel drive vehicle in the course of their work. By the end of the course students will be able to safely operate a four wheel drive vehicle, perform defensive driving techniques, plan and prepare for journey and carry out maintenance and minor repairs to vehicle.

Duration

The course will be conducted over 1 day.

Entry Requirements

A current unrestricted Class "C" Australian Drivers Licence to be presented and verified by Department of Transport on the day of training.

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements from the unit are:
- Writing is required to the level of completing written assessments.
- Numeracy is required to enable the determination of similar activities.

Participants are required to hold a current unrestricted Class C driver’s licence, the ability to drive a manual vehicle and meet the national vision standards requirements for that states legislation, with or without corrective lenses.

Students must wear enclosed shoes.

Assessment Requirements

The course will be based on theoretical sessions, equipment demonstrations and practical exercises.

While the training for the enrolled units is delivered concurrently, each Unit of competency is assessed as a discrete unit.

Participants who are deemed competent will receive a Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued by RIKLAN Emergency Management Services (RTO 51994) under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Delivery Mode

Face to face and practical hands-on training conducted by an experienced Trainer/Assessor with strong knowledge of relevant Legislation, Australian Standards and Codes of Practice.

Materials or Equipment Required

1 x Suitable 4WD vehicle for practical exercises per person.

Notes

If you are a new or continuing student undertaking nationally recognised training, you need a USI in order to receive your qualification or statement of attainment for this unit.
