Description

If you work, or are responsible for people who work, in confined spaces, this course is designed to provide you with the appropriate skills and knowledge to test the working atmosphere using electronic test apparatus and enter and work in confined spaces. Topics covered include:

- Plan and prepare for working in a confined spaces.
- Obtain entry permit and instructions.
- Recognise and assess conditions that require testing.
- Take readings and interpret data
- Interpret and applying safe work methods.
- Apply tagging and lock out procedures.
- Select PPE applicable to all tasks.
- Use atmospheric monitoring devices prior to entering the confined space and during confined space activity.
- Perform work in the confined space.
- Identify hazards and apply control measures.
- Exit the confined space and remove tagging and lock out
- Clean and maintain equipment.

Purpose

The purpose of this training course is for participants who may be required to work in confined spaces, to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a confined space. This competency requires the person to interpret readings and take actions based on those interpretations to safely, efficiently and effectively perform work in a confined space within the workplace

Duration

The course will be conducted over 1 Day (8 Hours).

Entry Requirements

This unit requires the ability to read and interpret a gas testing appliance and then communicate the readings.

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements from the unit are:
Writing is required to the level of completing required workplace reports/forms.
Numeracy is required to read the gas testing instrument and interpret the results as being safe/not safe and so determine the required actions.

Assessment Requirements

The course will be based on theoretical sessions, equipment demonstrations and practical exercises.

Participants who are deemed competent will receive a Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued by RIKLAN Emergency Management Services under the Australian Qualifications Framework

Delivery Mode

Face to face and practical hands-on training conducted by an experienced Trainer/Assessor with strong knowledge of relevant Legislation, Australian Standards and Codes of Practice.

Materials or Equipment Required

Participants must wear long pants, long sleeve shirts and steel cap boots.

Notes

If you are a new or continuing student undertaking Nationally recognised training, you will need a USI in order to receive your Qualification or Statement of Attainment for this training program.
