Description

This course is to provide participants with the knowledge and technical skills to undertake vertical rescue from height or depths in a range of emergency situations using advanced rope rescue techniques and procedures.

Purpose

This course includes a range of vertical rescue situations, preparing and responding to rescue situations, assessing rescue scenes, establishing vertical rescue systems and performing in and terminating rescue. It is applicable to personnel from the emergency services, volunteer organisations and associated industries.

Career Pathways

These units of competency form part of the elective units required to complete:
- RII30719 - Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue; and
- PUA30619 - Certificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations)

Duration

The course will be conducted over 3 Days.

Entry Requirements

Photo ID must be presented on arrival at the training premises.

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements from the unit are:
- Writing is required to the level of completing written assessments.
- Numeracy is required to enable the determination of similar activities.

Qualification Requirements

Pre-requisite: HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid.
Pre-requisite evidence is required to be provided before issuance of the Statement of Attainment.

Assessment Requirements

The course will be based on theoretical sessions, written assessment, equipment demonstrations and practical exercises.

While the training for the enrolled units is delivered concurrently, each unit of competency is assessed as a discrete unit.

Participants who are deemed competent will receive a Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued by RIKLAN Emergency Management Services (RTO 51994) under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Delivery Mode

Face to face and practical hands-on training conducted by an experienced Emergency Services Trainer/Assessor with strong knowledge of relevant Legislation, Australian Standards and Codes of Practice.

Materials or Equipment Required

Students must wear long pants, long sleeve shirts and steel cap boots.

Notes

If you are a new or continuing student undertaking nationally recognised training, you need a USI in order to receive your qualification or statement of attainment for this unit.

The Vertical Rescue Training course spans three intensive days, during which participants will delve into both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Technical Skills and Procedures: The course covers essential techniques such as knot tying, anchor point setting, rope ascension and descent, and patient handling. Equipment Handling: Proper use of rescue equipment, including harnesses, ropes, and other specialised gear, is thoroughly taught and practised. Safety and Teamwork: Emphasis is placed on maintaining safety protocols and working effectively within a rescue team.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to: Prepare and respond to a variety of vertical rescue scenarios. Conduct thorough risk assessments at rescue scenes. Establish and manage vertical rescue systems. Execute vertical rescues using advanced rope techniques. Safely conclude rescue operations.
